Hello everyone, now let’s talk about something very important: Glasses, especially blue light glasses. I’m wearing glasses about 3-4 years now. My eyes are not that bad, thank god, but I have definitely had some issues with headache and tiredness throughout the past years. I work with a laptop and my phone every day, which is really bad for my eyes. This summer I experienced my headache getting worse, like having a really bad headache after working for 4-6 hours. After some research, I decided to invest in some new glasses containing blue light technology.
Blue light technology
Even if it has not yet been proven that the screens of modern computers, tablets and smartphones emit enough blue light to harm our eyes. It is certain that blue-violet radiation affects our eyes, depending on the duration or intensity with which we look at it.
Glasses with blue light filter technology let you relax your eyes. A coating ensures that short-wave blue light is filtered. And this also reduces the so-called stray light, which worsens our focus and makes our eyes tired.
You can use blue light glasses with or without prescription.
After browsing different opticians to find the perfect frame for me, I decided to have a look at the Mister Spex Store in Bochum. They have a big variety of different frames from different designers and a very competent team. My personal fave was a frame from their house brand Ultralight Classics by Mister Spex in a transparent colour. Then I had a quick eyesight test and specified some other extras I wanted. The glasses were then sent to my home a few days later and I could have them adjusted at any time in the store or a partner optician.
All in all, I am very happy with the way the glasses look and the blue light filter. Because of the lightweight frame, I can wear them all day without noticing and the blue light filter definitely helps with my headaches. I really recommend Mister Spex if you are looking for a new pair of glasses!
Shopping presents for a girlfriend, a sister, the best female friend or a mother can be quite frustrating. But there is always the perfect present, for every price range. The most simple gift idea is always jewellery. I am eyeing these pieces from Ariane Ernst quite a while now, they are such classical pieces, fairly priced and of course we love supporting small businesses. But let’s be honest, the real star here is the Mejuri Diamond Ring. Just overall perfection, especially if you are planning to purpose to someone. This Ring is a true yes!
This one is for all the dads, boyfriends, uncles and guys who didn’t get a PS5 this year. Music always cheers us up, so why not go back to the roots of music and gift someone a Record player and their very first record. This makes music much more appreciatable than listening via Spotify or Apple Music. Not a fan of the classics? No problem, the new AirPods are really good as a gift idea because you can personalise them.
Moving on, I found these incredible Birkenstockswith fur inside of them. They are definitely on the pricier side, but they are worth it.
Homebodies are definitely an easy category, giving them a vase from their favourite designer makes them beyond happy. But have you heard of Sculpd before? They make pottery kits for at home, this way you don’t spend a ton of money and the person you are gifting can make their own vase or decor piece. Do-It-Yourself presents and Games are definitely important to survive staying at home with your family over the holidays.
For everyone who loves cooking or just loves their kitchen, I would always recommend a cookbook. This Japan cookbook just looks absolutely yummy and it even includes sushi recipes! For a vegan alternative, I heard that the Bosh! cookbook should be really good.
Books are always a no-brainer, I listed three informative books at the top and some novels below. If you are considering shopping books for someone, maybe don’t order them online and rather support the local bookshops.
Besides books, gifting some skincare or cosmetics can be a cool idea too. I heard so much about the Gisou Hair Oil that I will definitely buy this for me. The travel size is even under 50 bucks, which is great!
Referring back to do-to-yourself presents, knitting is a huge trend right now. Have you heard of Wool And The Gang before? They sell knitting-kits for different products. You just pick the item you want to create and the colour of the yarn and the whole set is being delivered to your door, including knitting needles, a Made-by-Me label and the pattern. What a cool present to give to someone living in the colder regions.
Just not personal enough for you? Maybe gift your loved ones an experience rather than an item. When COVID is over my Mum and I will definitely try these incredible cool ArtNights. Drinking some wine and painting can be very relaxing. Perfect for a girls night.
Hello everyone, I hope you are well. Right now we are having a “light lockdown” in Germany. That means I hardly leave my home because I’m in the home office too. So what to do with all this free time? Besides watching Netflix, I try to start new hobbies or read a lot to educate myself.
I first started tie-dyeing in spring, after I watched Danielle Bernstein’s (@weworewhat) Story. She tie-dyed a sweatsuit herself. I knew I wanted to do the same. So I ordered a plain white sweatshirt and some dye. Some months later I already dyed some sweatshirts, socks, and t-shirts. Because everyone is always asking about my self-made pieces, I thought I’d do a blog post about this.
To get that “all-over-the-place”- and “i-don’t-know-how-this-works”-Look, I just crinkled up different parts of the sweatshirt and tie them with hairties. Then I poured 6 liters of 60 degrees hot water (this equals 2 liters of cold water and 4 liters of boiling hot water) into a bucket and mixed in the dye. I left the shirt and the sweatshirt soak in for about 30-45 minutes (not 60 minutes as the manual said). Then I washed out the dye and let both soak in a mix of water and vinegar, for about 15 minutes. After that, I packed them into the washing machine at 40 degrees.
Be careful when you are washing your DIY dyed items, the dye might transfer onto other clothing pieces. So only wash with the same color.
Netflix has manifested itself in our society just as iPhones have. You cant imagine a world without it anymore. The past year Netflix had over 167 million paying streaming subscribers worldwide as well as over 4.6 million free trial customers. Somehow there are so many movies that sometimes you just lose the overview. But no problem because I am here to help you. As a professional movie binge-watcher, I can recommend my favorites.
Call me by your name
2017 • drama/romance
I love this story about a 17-year-old boy, who falls madly in love. The story takes place in northern Italy in 1983. This is the perfect summer romance you were looking for, to watch on a stormy night. Can’t go wrong with this one.
2019 • mystery/crime
Who doesn’t love a good Comedy with our beloved Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler? Furthermore, the story takes place on a yacht and someone gets killed AND Adam Sandler is going to solve the case. Is there anything better in this world? Probably not.
Love and other disasters
2006 • love-film/comedy
The young main character always tries to pair off her gay best friend with some good looking guys. But then somehow she doesn’t notice falling in love herself in the end. Such a cute movie with a really good storyline. A must-see for everyone who really likes watching a good love movie.
2019 ‧ thriller/action
I mean this is a Netflix production – directed by legend Michael Bay. I love this movie, it’s full of action but still has that funny side to it. The main character (Ryan Reynolds) reminds a bit of batman actually. He’s the good guy, who pretends his death and builds a task force to save the world.
How did you like my recommendations? Do you have a favorite Netflix movie?
